Okay. I’m going to do a plug. Have a wedding coming up? Have a party? Any other special event? Hire the Landolfi String Quartet. Tell them Gary sent you. It’s an excellent quartet and often I play cello for them. If there isn’t the budget or need for a whole quartet, a trio or duo can also be hired. Just remember to tell them Gary sent you. It is helpful for them to know how the job came through, regardless whether I can play for the event. This quartet is a part of my means of supporting my family. While Landolfi plays in St. Louis, I’ve subbed in the quartet when playing in places an hour or two drive outside the St. Louis Metro area as well as playing close to home. Support the arts. Support live music. Hire Landolfi String Quartet.
From the 4th grade through senior year my son took cello lessons with Gary. I believe that Gary’s teaching style is a contributing factor in my son continuing his cello studies for so long. He has just started college and is in the orchestra, even though he is not majoring in music. He just loves music. Gary does more than just teach technique, he supplies the context around the music, discussing history and the composers, this is part of what kept my son so interested. Gary helped so much over the years with recitals, auditions, and regional and state solo and ensemble festivals. He is so patient going over and over sticky parts to prepare for important events. One of the things that I most appreciate is how much Gary respects the student’s input. He often asks for the student’s input after practicing a piece, before giving his own feedback. I saw it in the later years as well, getting input as for what pieces to study after mastering the standard books. Over the years I have recommended Gary to many families and I will certainly continue to do so.
We are so thankful that Mr. Lee was recommended to us! His demeanor, patience, kindness and knowledge did wonders to heal the many wounds of having previously studied with a less nurturing teacher. Although my son has since turned his attentions to other endeavors, the foundation he received with Mr. Lee was such that he to this day is able to pick up his cello and play for enjoyment, as he did for me recently as a Mother's Day present. Thank you, Gary, for helping give my son an appreciation and love for music!
My 13 year old son Aidan has taken cello lessons from Gary Lee for over a year. Gary is extremely knowledgeable in every area of music. Gary and my son discuss everything from scales to arpeggios. Virtually every question Aidan asks, Gary has a clear detailed answer for. Gary is dedicated to helping Aidan achieve his musical goals. He consistently teaches in a patient and positive manner. We feel so fortunate to have met Gary Lee. I highly recommend Gary Lee as music teacher. He truly has the gift of being an outstanding teacher!
I began studying with Gary Lee in 2013—as an adult beginner with only a rudimentary knowledge of music. Under his guidance, I'm making steady progress...and enjoying my lessons as well as my practice time. Gary is that rare combination of patience and encouragement. He guides me to do my best, yet doesn't pressure or criticize if my efforts fall short of the goals we set. He is very generous in sharing his time and insights, and he often recommends relevant resources that help me enhance my abilities and my knowledge. I strongly recommend Gary as a teacher to anyone—beginner or advanced—who wants to grow as a musician.
My son and daughter studied with Gary Lee throughout their middle school and high school years. Gary took them from the basics to advanced skills and musicianship as they matured as cellists. Gary made my children's goals his own as he coached them through numerous auditions, festival judgings and concerto competitions. As my children worked to perfect a piece of music, they were especially appreciative of Gary's incredible patience in the face of countless repetitions of difficult phrases or trouble spots. Gary is the soul of patience. Both of my children are continuing their cello studies in college thanks in part to their success under Gary's tutelage and his enthusiasm for the instrument which he passes along to his students.
